Does Skin Color Affect Vein Visualization?
All vein visualization devices use reflected infrared light to detect the vein pattern. The hemoglobin in the blood absorbs some of the infrared and that absorption is used to locate the veins.
Skin color does not affect vein detection, however patterned skin color from skin conditions such as Vitiligo may make it harder for clinicians to recognize the veins.
